David Cook Upsets Archuleta On “American Idol”
Remember the other day when I wrote a post about how David Archuleta might not be able to win “American Idol” since his Dad had been banned from back stage? Jeff Archuleta was rumored to be controlling every step David made when it came to song choices and I wondered if David could win without his father’s guiding hand.
I was exaggerating of course, but I thought of it again last night because David Cook upset universal fan favorite David Archuleta for the title of “American Idol” 2008.
The two hour results show was chock full of stars like Seal, George Michael, Donna Summer and Bryan Adams. There were medleys with the top twelve finalists, there was a very funny monologue by Jimmy Kimmel and an appearance/plug by Mike Myers as “The Love Guru.”
Finally, at about 10:56pm Ryan Seacrest made the announcement, “Your new American Idol is David….Cook!” I was floored since no way, no how, did I predict David Cook snatching the title from the teen angel hands of David Archuleta.
It must have taken Simon’s coronation of Archuleta last night to push the David Cook fans into voting overdrive, because he won by over 12 million votes. That’s a lot of phone calls.
Anyway, congratulations to David Cook. I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of him. And if we’re lucky, we’ll be seeing him clean shaven and after he’s run a comb through his hair.
