The Daytime Emmys Love “Y&R”
The Daytime Emmy Award nominations were announced last week and CBS cleaned up with the most (56) nominations.
As far as soaps “The Young and The Restless” had the most nominations with 17 and though “Y&R” is the only soap I watch on a steady basis, 17 seems a bit much. For example, in the category of Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama, three of the five nominees are from “Y&R.”
The soap set in Genoa City, Wisconsin was also nominated for Best Drama, with acting nods for Christian Le Blanc, Michelle Stafford, Peter Bergman, Jeanne Cooper and Tracey Bregman. Now all of these actors are very good, it’s just I don’t feel that any of them did anything particularly special this year. If I had to pick out the best of that group, they would be Christian Le Blanc, Tracey Bregman and Peter Bergman.
The main problem with “Y&R” last year was the plots were so off the wall—Phyllis and Nick? Bleh! Jack and Sharon? Double Bleh!—it’s hard to judge how good those actors are because they had so little good to do.
Nevertheless, I still tape the show everyday hoping for good things to come. The 35th Annual Daytime Emmys will air on ABC-TV on June 20th at 8 PM.
