The Return of “America’s Next Top Model”
Wanna be on top? It’s back, folks. “America’s Next Top Model.”
Tomorrow night at 8PM on the CW, it’s the return to New York City of the show that purports to bring us the modeling superstars of the future. You all remember, Jaslene, Danielle, and all those other winners, don’t you? Of course you do.
“ANTM” may not be the star maker it purports to be, but it is an entertaining show. You got Tyra Banks, supermodel/diva extrodinaire and her happy band of associates: runway coach Miss J. Alexander, photographer Nigel Barker, and to replace Twiggy on the judging panel is Paulina Porizkova, fresh from her brief losing stint on “Dancing With The Stars.”
Just to prepare myself, I watched some of MTV’s Cycle 9″ANTM” marathon last weekend. That’s the one that cute, little Saleisha won after strutting her stuff in the finals in China. It didn’t hurt that her competition, Chantal knocked over one of the stilted Chinese acrobats during the final runway show. But Saleisha, a Kim Fields look-a-like was a worthy winner.
I am however going to miss Twiggy, because she brought a level of sanity and reality to the judging panel that was sometimes sorely lacking.
This time fourteen new contestants are going to vie to stand in front of Tyra every week while she tells them, “I have fourteen beautiful girls in front of me. But I only have thirteen pictures in my hand.” Among this cycle’s contestants the oldest is twenty three and the youngest eighteen. There’s a bunch of students and waitresses and I’m going to go out on a limb and say they’re all looking to be fierce.
So let the bitchin’ begin.
