“Lost” Snap Recap: “The Economist” (2/14/08)
Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve identified number four of the “Oceanic Six.” It’s Sayid Jarrah. We know this because after the writers trick us into thinking Sayid has taken his Oceanic settlement money and decided to golf the rest of his life away in the beautiful Seychelles, we discover that he’s really an assassin.
He’s being controlled by some unseen boss and has a list of targets to eliminate. In the meantime, he romances their beautiful, blonde assistants in order to get closer to them.
Flashing back to the island, Locke and his merry band of Losties are being tracked by Sayid, Kate and Miles. Their mission? To bring back Charlotte and thereby convince Frank, the helicopter pilot to take them back to the freighter at sea. Sayid’s plan as told to Jack, is to go back to the ship and find out what their “rescuers” true motives are, since they won’t say anymore than that their mission was to get Ben.
That leads to Sayid, Kate and Miles tracking Locke and the Losties, and Locke turning the tables on them with a hilariously helpful Hurley. However Sayid convinces Locke to swap Charlotte for Miles…Sayid never said anything about not doing that…and by the end of the episode, he, Frank, Desmond and Dead Naomi fly off toward the freighter.
Other developments, Sayid discovers the picture of Penny and Desmond in Dead Naomi’s pack, Faraday does a funky little physics experiment that reveals something to him about the island, and Kate and Sawyer talk about playing house.
Oh and the kicker at the end? Flashing forward, Sayid, after getting shot by the formerly mentioned beautiful blonde, who he actually started to fall in love with, gets treated by his mysterious boss in the back room of a veterinary office. And his boss is……..none other than, Ben!
