i just got off a plane a few days ago and there were A LOT of babies. it was awful, for everyone. flying is awful. i think they just need to throw it out and start over from scratch.

I have to agree with Allan. I actually think it's a marvelous idea to separate the babies on a plane. Anyone who has spent time with more than one baby will tell you that when one starts crying, it's likely that soon the others will cry sympathetically!! Even if you were sitting in the very back of the plane, you'd hear a bunch of babes wailing.

I'd pay $10 for in-seat Wifi though!!! :)

Air Canada's been doing this for years already - works quite well too! I'll gladly take a break off my fare to shed some 'perks'!

Alas, I can't endorse the attitude toward travel with babies and small children. You can bet that you are less disturbed than the parent who's got the crying child in his or her lap. We were all babies once, and the price of civilization is dealing with other people.

Hey Meg, I think you'll get a kick out of this: we recently did a multimedia piece on unusual hotels in the world. I'd be curious to know what you think of it. Best, Anna

I've done the NC coast in early March. I wouldn't too far go out of my way to do an off-season beach vacation, but it's interesting to stand on the beach in a winter jacket. Also, it's the only time I've ever been alone on a beach, which provides a nice perspective.

For my old laptop, I subscribed to a broadband internet connection through my cell phone. You have to install some software and then it uses a usb device to connect from anywhere you have cellular reception. It was convenient in places that would've charged me for internet service, but overall it was kind of a drag. The connection was always really slow and it was more expensive than it was worth for me, so I'm canceling that service and now just relying on free wi-fi wherever I can find it.

So what kind of internet connection are you using? I want to get one. Hate the thought of a monthly fee, though.

I flew last week with a friend - my bag is regulation sized, hers, she says it is, but when positioned "wheels out" - or is that wheels in? - the compartment would not close. I don't begrudge her the bag, hell, I'm sure when she bought it it WAS regulation size plus, you didn't have to worry that everyone else on the flight was traveling carryon only.

I don't think we should be paying fees for luggage - at least not for the first within weight regulations bag. I object to the nickel and diming that amounts to service cuts. If the airlines need to increase their fares, so be it, but doing so in the guise of a service cut doesn't make anyone happy.

I DO think the carry on size rules should be enforced. But the combination of enforced carry on rules and luggage fees isn't a good cocktail.
