The photos above have one thing in common- they are all made of Paper. I think it’s pretty amazing since paper is so hard to keep from ripping under these circumstances. The first photo is made of toilet paper, which reminds me that I need to buy some… the second photo is made from pages from a phone book, the third is a custom printed paper and the last photo is made entirely of maps of the British Isle. I have a dress made of Tyvec (the fedex envelope material) and it is the coolest! I think Tyvec is the closest to getting that paper look. Surprisingly, it’s pretty durable.

Don’t let your eyes fool you- yes, it says Chanel, but your dog may be snaking on it if you set it down. These items are all made of Beef Jerky. A design student named Nancy Wu decided to make use of the most disgusting food on earth and turn it into an object of luxury. I think she did a good job, because I want one and I hate Beef Jerky. I keep thinking of those Slim Jim commercials of a few years ago with a wresting dude with moobs wearing tights screaming “Snap into a Slim Jim”. I wonder if it goes bad.

Here are some cool umbrellas I came across … the first 2 are from Jean Paul Gaultier, The third photo is a collection by lingerie designer, Chantal Thomass . The Fourth photo is some dumbass in Asia that wants to be hands free for what ever reason and the last photo is my personal favorite, The gun umbrella by Alex Wooley. The gun fills with rain water so you can have a water fight on the street with whoever bumps into your umbrella. I like that.

Check out these cool photos and textiles by Iranian artist Sarah Rahbar. I love photos like this where it makes you think about the state of the world, yet is so beautiful. Check out her Myspace (link below) to see more of of her work. I remember growing up as an American -Iranian as a child and getting teased by a douche who remains nameless in the 4th through 8th grade. He used call me a terrorist and throw eraser “bombs” at me in class. And the teacher would do nothing because his father was in the town council or some crap like that. Basically, that kid could get away with anything. Then high school came and they sent him off to some private school ( thankfully for me, but what a waste of money for the parents). The last photo reminded me of that time. I don’t know what happened to that kid… I should google him and send him a virtual middle finger… is there a site for that?

French Designers, Ab- Irato
have designed a clutch worthy of any Bond fan. As you may already know, I am a fan of James Bond and weapons like Brass Knuckles , Lipstick knives and guns. So, this would fit perfectly into my wardrobe! Retailing at 93 Bristish pounds, which is like $100 million US dollars, it’s a steal if you’re NOT American. By the time I finish typing this blog, it will be $200 million US dollars. Anyinflation, this would go great with a killer black dress, 5 inch stilletos and oh yes, red lipstick.

Designer Inbar Spector’s
Spring 2009 collection (shown in London) was a fit for anyone with a sweet tooth. Billowing Baby Blue gowns, Snowy White gowns and Classic Black Bouncy gowns dominated the runway. I really like this collection because looks futuristic with a twist of whimsy via the colors (and non colors). I see a bit of Alexander McQueen in her collections, which we can never have too much of in this world. She is definitely one to watch.

Steampunk Trunk on Etsy makes these awesome pieces of jewelry for a very reasonable price, between $40-$60. Made from old watch gears and other gears, this is the epitome of recyclable fashion in a Victorian style. A while back, I had written an article in Buzzine.com on the growing trend of Steampunk. You may view it here. Today, there are so many vendors on etsy offering the growing fashion trend. Go ahead an type in ’steampunk’ in the search box on etsy and begin your adventure back in time or shall I say to the future?

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac showed his Spring 3001 collection (yes, he’s already designed that far ahead) not with malnourished models , but with lego people! If that is not genius, I don’t know what is! Not only are the models lego people, but the audience is lego people, too! Anna Wintour and Andre Leon Tally are in the front row as lego people along with a lego devil. His collection was rock inspired with slogans like ’smells like teen spirit’ and ‘no fear no tears’ , as well as the union jack. The video, directed by Fabrice Pathier, was in conjunction with his latest collection. Here are a few photos from the none lego people fashion show (spring 2009):

The day after Thanksgiving is when I usually break out all the Christmas crap. We have a 7 ft. tall pink flocked Christmas tree that we decorate with naked Barbies, ostrich feathers, my baby mobile converted to ornaments, Rhinestone jewelry and of course, a crown fit for a king (not Burger king!) as the topper! (see below)Yes, it is a truly fupe Christmas tree but I LOVE it! Now I can add a DIY Munny ornament! So cool, for only $13. I can paint it, color it, rhine stone it, deco page it… whatever that suits my mood. For that handsome man in your life, you can get one of these cozy kidrobot sweaters retailing for $300. A little steep , but well worth the coolness factor.
Visit Kidrobot for more cool stuff.

Famed Couture shoe maker , Christian Louboutin and filmmaker David Lynch (Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive)have collaborated for a show originally at Design Art London. The exhibition, which included Lynch’s photographs of the 5 limited edition shoes alongside the lovely fetishistic shoes themselves, moved now to Galerie du Passage in Paris until November 3. Hopefully, this show moves to the US for us to enjoy and appreciate. I will keep my eye out for it and let you know.
The shoes include a 26cms heel, spikes on the inside and sole of the shoe, and Siamese heels (two shoes fused at the heel) and a ballet shoe with a transparent sole ( my favorite!)
