Cashmere Bargains Ahoy
Sunday, December 21st, 2008 | J. Crew, sweaters | 2 Comments
J. Crew has some pretty amazing things hiding in their sale section right now, which includes items up to 60% off, a veritable Christmas miracle! My favorite of the lot? This beautiful sweater:
I adore the collar and the feminine details. And this sweater is a steal at $69.99. My favorite color is the dark peony, but you really cannot go wrong with any of the myriad of shades available. Looking for a different shape? Try the bateau neckline for $89.99 or the shawl collar for $99.99.
J. Crew Eva Cashmere Sweater, $69.99. Available in sizes XS-XL, in numerous colors.

Old Navy has some great $6.00 specials going on right now. YES, SIX MEASLY DOLLARS!
My favorite of the lot? This adorable, versatile clutch!
I love that this clutch isn’t so dressy that it cannot be paired with more casual clothes. The wrist strap insures that you won’t have to have it tucked uncomfotably under you arm, which is my other beef with most clutches. I am also a fan of the fact that it unfolds to be even larger.

Elegant Evening Out Top

New Year’s Eve is rapidly approaching, and along with it comes anxiety. What are my plans?! What are my friends doing?! Is it going to be a disappointment like always (or is that just me- NYE never lives up to the hype!)??
The one perpetually positive thing about NYE? An excuse to dress up.
This top from White House Black Market is just the thing if your plans aren’t quite nailed down yet:
And why is this the perfect top for late planners? It will work with ANYTHING! Jeans! Black Pants! Skirts! Lindsay Lohan’s new legging line! Okay, maybe not that. But it certainly is a versatile piece, and just the thing if you aren’t quite sure how formal the dress will be for your NYE celebration. The touch of sequins is dressy without taking this top to another league of formality. This also means you’ll be able to wear for many occasions to come.

The Perfect Anything Blazer
Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 | Forever 21, jackets, layering | No Comments
We are all well served to have a few great jackets in our closet. There are so very many things you can do with a simple blazer, and turn one piece into something entirely different. Take, for example, this tweed blazer:
So what can we do with this?
- Pair with a simple sheath dress for more formal offices
- Pair with black pants and a basic shell to create a suit
- Couple with jeans and heels and a long strand of pearls for a night out
- Wear it with a skirt and white button down top
And that is just a few of the many things one can do with this blazer. The wonderful thing about the tweed fabric is that it eliminates the concern of having matching black fabrics. The texture of the jacket will make it work with any black pants or skirt because it will hide the fact that the black fabrics are not perfectly matching. Which means this fantastically cheap piece will get a ton of wear!
Geraldine Tweed Blazer at Forever 21, $29.80. Available in sizes S-M. If this does not come in your size, check out all the other fantastic jackets on their site!
Lace, Understated.

When the September issue of Vogue (the be all, end all of fashion mags) came out this fall, lace was touted as a huge trend for the coming season. Personally, I am NOT a fan of lace. Unless you are willing to fork over a fair amount of cash, lace tends to look cheap. And even if you have the money to spend on high quality lace, lace pieces are hardly practical and therefore not a good buy in my opinion. My decision to opt out of this trend was only reinforced upon finding the only lace item I would even consider wearing, a lace suit by Prada, and finding it to cost thousands of dollars.
But all that changed when I found this skirt at Banana Republic:
This is just the thing for a holiday party, formal dinner, or even New Year’s Eve! When wearing lace, I would make all of the other pieces simple, and of course patternless. I would also say that now is not the time to experiment with color matching- keep it black on top and bottom.
I love this skirt paired with the simple black turtleneck as shown on the Banana Republic website. I believe it would also work with a simple merino or cashmere twinset.

A Dress For All Seasons

I have always been a fan of BCBG Max Azria, and have worn BCBG clothing since college. Though I love the entire line, from handbags to suits, my favorite pieces have always been the jersey dresses. Unlike other jersey attire, BCBG jersey is thick enough that it doesn’t show lumps or bulges or panty lines. I also often find that their dresses are seasonless, and can be made appropriate for any weather with the right accessories.
Take, for example, this dress:
This is perfect for work any time of year. During colder times, add tights. During the summer, go with bare legs. It is also noteworthy that this shape will work well on any size. The empire waist will hide the tummy, hips and bottom. The neckline will flatter all but the bustiest of shapes (and sorry, if you have a ton of cleavage, this may not work for the office).
BCBG Max Azria Printed Matte Jersey Dress at Bloomingdale’s. On sale for $124.60. Sizes XS-M.
Old Navy? Really?

Some time ago, I saw a fellow blogger link to a simple, gorgeous leather bag. I could not believe my eyes when I saw this coming from Old Navy:
So unbelievably classic! The chain detail strap, very Chanel-esque, adds a fashionable detail to the clean lines of the bag. The pebbled leather will stand up to dirt and scratches much better than your average leather bag! Not only will the style be timeless, but this is a bag that could realistically last more than one season. Let’s face it- that’s not something you can say about most of Old Navy’s handbags! And bonus! It is on sale!
Chain-Link Leather Hobo Bag at Old Navy, $49.50. Available in Concrete Gray or Black.
Shoes! Shoes! More Shoes!

I know I’ve been inundating Fashion Find with shoes lately, but I just keep finding amazing deals on gorgeous styles that I must share. Whilst racking my brain to recall my favorite teeny-bopper bargain shops, I remembered Forever 21’s predecessor- Charlotte Russe. And then I found these lovelies:
Granted, these patent pumps are not going to be of the highest quality. But when worn with dress pants or jeans, WHO CARES? All you will see is the precious ruffle detail peeking out from the bottom.
Patent Ruffle Pumps at Charlotte Russe, on sale for $18.39! Available in sizes 6-10, in colors black, peach or navy.
Just what I need. Another dress.

Yes, there’s a hint of sarcasm in the title, but lately my motto is “One can never have enough dresses.” I sing the praise of dresses often here, but it bears repeating. You can take almost any dress and dress it up or down for any occasion. A simple shape and color can be a flexible palette for just about any look. Take for instance this Calvin Klein sweater dress:
Add sparkly jewelry for nighttime. Pair it with knee high boots and tights for date night. Couple this dress with mary-janes or pumps for work. No matter how you wear it, you are guaranteed to be comfortable. And quite smug, at the low price you paid.
Calvin Klein Sweater Knit Shift Dress at Nordstrom, on sale for $57.90. Availble in Charcoal or Black, in sizes XS-L.
Boden End of Season Sale
Tuesday, December 9th, 2008 | Boden | 1 Comment
Boden, not unlike my favorite J. Crew, is a great place for classic staples. Also not unlike J. Crew? The prices. They are high. Fortunately, they are having a wonderful end of season sale for those of us who cannot stomach paying $98.00 for a simple cotton blouse.
Previous posts about basic tees have been quite popular, so let’s check out some of the great tees at Boden, shall we?
Isabella Pleat Top at Boden, $24.00. Assorted Sizes.
Silk Trim Georgette Henley at Boden, $27.00. Assorted Sizes.
Silk Ruffle Henley at Boden, $36.00-$58.00. Assorted Sizes.
All of the tops in their tops and t-shirts sale section are incredibly versatile. They are perfect for the stay-at-home mom who wants to stay in style. They are perfect for the casual office, whether with jeans or dress pants. I don’t think a little multi-tasking is too much to ask of our clothes.
