Inspiration Board: Fashionable 40’s Inspired Living Room

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

The inspiration image below provided so many elements that inspired me to design a room around. First of all the colors are soothing and interesting and the textures are elegant and sophisticated. I started my inspiration board by finding a drapery that is similar to the texture of the backdrop in the inspiration image. I also wanted to incorporate a soft pop of the red color of her gorgeous hat and a diamond shaped mirror and decor that reflected the jewelry of the model in the image. To tie it all together I added a clean lined sofa in the same fabric and color choice of the dress and also a rug in the same texture and color as her jacket. After all clothing fashion and home decor relate to each more than most people think. The fashions usually follow each other and you are still working with the same elements of design.

Inspiration Board: Fashion Mod Dining

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

I love this inspiration image for its color and patterns. The black and white fabrics work great for decor and upholstery. If I were to create this room I would use the black and white stripe fabric for long modern drapery and then the black and white circle fabric for the chair upholstery. I also picked out this modern dining table because it reminded me of the girls pointy shoes in the inspiration image. I like the idea of doing some sort of simple sponging for the wall to create the light and dark gradation of the rich tan color. I would probably complete the look with white painted hardwood floors and a dramatic chandelier.

Updated Wedding Inspiration Board

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

This is my current wedding inspiration board. We have decided on the location and we went with a place on Maui called Olowalu. It has a very large grassy area and is very private and secluded. It is also right on the water with amazing views of the other islands and the ocean. We are having the reception and ceremony here and we decided to go with this really pretty tent that has chandeliers and drapes that hang to the side. I am going for a very romantic and vintage look with a touch of hawaiian. As you can see there is a green and white theme going on which I hope will bring these styles together. I started designing my invitations and cant wait to see what they look like. My mom and I just went looking for ideas for dresses and also gift baskets. I am going to have four flower girls and my idea is to purchase really pretty vintage looking dresses and then tie a green ribbon around the dress. For gift baskets we want to also have a vintage feel to it and it will be sort of a spa like gift basket to tie in our R & R theme. So much to do!

Inspiration Board: Rustic Enchantress

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

Purple is such a great fall color either for clothing or home decor so I wanted to design a board that would have some purple in it. I also love purple with blue and black to make it less girly and make it more sophisticated. This inspiration image has so many great colors and textures. I decided that I wanted to find a fabric for the bedding that would be a similar look as the big purple flower to make it the focal point of the bedroom. I then decided to go with a black backdrop like in the image and decided to go with an upholstered black headboard with ornate detail. I also incorporated wood, glass and white ceramic just like the inspiration image to really pull it all together.

Inspiration Board: Pink Bathroom Decorating

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

It just so happened that I found this beautiful inspiration image (#4) a little while after I found the pink lantern (#1). I couldn’t believe how similar they were. They even have the little half circles on the side. When I was collecting imagery for this mood board I wanted to create a similar feel of the inspiration image. I was going for fun girly romantic and elegant and I think the colors of pink white and black also helps to bring in that feeling.

Inspiration Board Ideas

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008
Here are some new and interesting ways to display the things that inspire you. Not only are inspiration boards great for creative motivation but they can also be a way to evoke positive thinking. I have a friend who battles with depression and she is always finding new ways to create positive thinking mostly through self help books and other medical and natural practices that at most times can be very pricey. When I look away from my computer for a moment I like to look at my cork board which has sayings like “good things” and “fulfill your dreams”. They are nice little reminders telling me that life isn’t so bad. It makes me feel happy and it helps me get through my day. I recommend creating an inspiration board to anybody because pining up little sayings and beautiful imagery can help bring in good energy and remind you of the things that you love.

Were Engaged! Wedding Inspiration Board

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

A couple of weeks ago I was proposed to by my boyfriend now fiance of three years. I have been thinking alot about how I want the wedding to look and feel and I decided that our theme is R & R for Rachel and Ryan or Rest & Relaxation. My ring is my great grandmothers engagemnet ring which I absolutly love! It has one sqaure diamond in the middle and two little diamonds on each side with a platinum band. It has a vintage feel to it so I want to incorporate a vintage style to the wedding as well. I love the color green and I think it has a very relaxing feel to it so green is my main color. Over at the Coco + Kelley blog there is a wedding inspiration contest if you havent heard already and I entered this board. You had to pick one of her interior spaces and design a wedding around it. The interior image I chose is at the bottom right hand corner of my board. I am pretty excited about this and there are some great entries. You can check more wedding inspiration boards over at Coco + Kelley’s Flickr page.

Inspiration Board: Traditional Yellow Bedroom

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

This beautiful photo from Don Freeman is a perfect inspirational image because it has great color and form. I wanted to capture the feeling of this photo into a bedroom design. I decided to go with soft yellow from the large vase for the walls and I think it makes a nice backdrop for the dark brown and white furniture pieces that I chose. I also wanted to implement similar lines and forms of the photo so I chose a coral lamp and an ornate headboard and mirror. I love that the flowers in the inspirational image softens and adds warmth to the photo so I included artwork with a floral design with yellow and green to tie the room together.

Inspiration Board 2 - Walking into a European Courtyard

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

I came across this inspiration image from Pure Public the other day. (website found via Desire to Inspire) and I just fell in love with the soft colors and the feeling of closeness to openness. This photo makes you feel like you could be there walking into a European courtyard. When deciding what furniture and décor to use for this bedroom I went very literal. The thick iron gate made me want to find a headboard in a similar fashion. Thinking about laying on the grass and reading a good book made me want to choose grass green bedding with a leafy pattern. The orange terra cotta color from the image was a must for the wall color in this bedroom and a wool pebble rug completes the look. See below for links to these fabulous pieces.

Inspiration Board 1 - Vintage Rose Bathroom

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Below is the inspiration image from Judy Casey. This image is inspiring because I saw many things that I could use for an interior. For instance the women’s beautiful dress inspired me to choose a vintage pink shower curtain and the wrought iron gate inspired me to choose a wrought iron scrolled mirror. I also decided to use an Acanthus crown molding because of the Corinthian style columns in the image. I decided to replicate the tile floor and the tiny blue tile in the pool for inside the shower/tub and base trim. The rug is inspired by the column texture and the faucet is also inspired by the gate. I think this design can work for a girl at any age because although its pink it still has a mature look to it.
