Pendant lights can add so much more than light to your space. How many homes have you been to where there is no consideration for ceiling lights as if no one will notice because its not at eye level? So get out there and tell your friends and family or yourself to remove their home depot standard light that the contractor picked out and get something elegant and more up to date that fits their style and home.
