Iris Burnett, has more than 30 years experience as a communication professional in politics, government, media, global and international affairs, academia, and the non-profit sector. Her most recent book “So You Think You Can Be President” will be available April 2008. Her other works include a novel, “Schlepper, a Mostly True Tale of Presidential Politics” and “The Gefilte Fish Chronicles”, an acclaimed documentary.
Burnett has played key roles in eight Presidential campaigns, (communication strategy, media, fundraising, advance, VIP and celebrity coordination), been political advisor to two Presidents and many elected officials. Her political experience includes a Presidential appointment as the Director of Security for the 1980 Democratic Convention, she remains the first and only woman to serve in this capacity for a National Political Convention. She was the Executive Director of “Debates ‘92” and the Executive Director of the Coordinated Campaign Special Events Operation.
Burnett served in political and foreign affairs positions in two Presidential administrations; Carter and Clinton, where she helped to create the White House Women’s Office and the President’s Interagency Council for Women. In addition, she served as both an official delegate to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women and an official delegate to the U.N. Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, where she directed communications for the delegation, including the congressional delegation and the White House. She is married to world renowned photojournalist David Burnett and has two children.
So You Think You Can Be President, my book now out in print, is simply a wonderful result of a series of extremely humorous e-mail communications between two whacky friends.
